Träby borg

This is one of Öland's most unique ringforts. It consists of three interconnected walls of round or oval plan shape. There is not much left of the facility; it has for a long time been used as a quarry. A depression in the north side of the northeastern part should mark a gate opening. The inner diameter of the northeastern ring is 48-66 m; the middle ring 51-65 m and the southwest ring 38-44 m. The width of the stone ramparts amounts to 7-10 m. Träby borg has been built in the same way as Ismantorps borg. House by house has been next to the inside of the ringfort's wall with an open space in the middle. In the southwestern, now almost extinct ring, the ruins of a new home built in the early 19th century, called Christineborg, can be seen. No ancient finds are known from the facility.

The ringforts on Öland are traditionally dated to the time of migration (400-550 AD). Today it is known that many are built earlier than that. They were built as a defense in external attacks, but several have also served as trading posts.
