Solliden's castle

QUEEN VICTORIA'S CREATION
Solliden was founded by Queen Victoria, who had been inspired by several visits to the Swedish doctor Axel Munthe's Italian villa San Michele on Capri. Victoria had problems with her health all her life, but believed that Öland's mild climate would alleviate her problems. She commissioned the architect Torben Grut to give a proposal and in 1903 the castle began to be built.

Now it is the swedish king's summer residence

Castle Park
It was built at the turn of the century by Queen Victoria. The castle building is joined by a beautiful pergola, decorated with classic sculptural details and immediately south of this is the Italian garden. To the south of the Italian garden, the English park spreads out with extensive grasslands and elements of several southern tree species, such as plane trees, cypresses and tulip trees.
