Mossberga fornborg

The ringfort is located 50 m west of Mossberga farm. It is an irregular, oval ring wall with a largest inner diameter of about 150 m. The wall height is today a maximum of 1.4 m. Two gates have been located opposite each other approximately to the west and east. The buildings inside the castle have been located in the same way as in Ismantorp's ringfort  and Eketorp, ie house by house on the inside of the wall perpendicular to the wall. Several interesting ancient finds have been made in the ringfort, including a Roman gold coin, spearheads and buckles from the migration period, ie the 400s-500s AD. The castle is also called Vipetorps borg.

The ringforts on Öland are traditionally dated to the time of migration (400-550 AD). Today it is known that many are built earlier than that. They were built as a defense in external attacks, but several have also served as trading posts.
