In the central forest on the border between five parishes is one of Öland's larger ancient ringforts. The ringfort has a diameter of 127 m and a height of 2.5 m. The ring wall is built in shell wall technology with nine gates. The castle has 88 house foundations, built radially from the wall. The foundations of the house are still clearly visible, which distinguishes it from many other ringforts where the inner part has been cultivated. Few finds have been made in the castle, which indicates that people did not live here for long periods. A survey in the early 2000s made a few findings, including an iron suit buckle and an arrowhead. The objects date the use of the castle to between 200-600 AD. A silver coin, probably Arabic, also shows that the ringfort at least had visitors during the Viking Age.
The ringforts on Öland are traditionally dated to the time of migration (400-550 AD). Today it is known that many are built earlier than that. They were built as a defense in external attacks, but several have also served as trading posts.
