Scientific name: Anthericum ramosum
Förekomst: Less common
Branched St Bernard's-lily occurs sparingly in Scania and on Öland, while it is quite common on Gotland. It grows on sunny, dry, sandy and gravelly limestone soils. On Öland, it is mainly found in the northern and central parts of Stora alvaret, where it can become abundant. The species has a continental, southern distribution in Europe where it is a character plant for a particular steppe type. On Öland and Gotland, it has its climatic northern border.
Branched St Bernard's-lily is similar to St Bernard's-lily, but the latter usually has unbranched flower stalk with larger flowers. Branched St Bernard's-lily usually blooms in July, later than Branched St Bernard's-lily.
The species name ramosum comes from the Latin ramus (branch) and means branched, which refers to the branched flower stalks. The family name Anthericum comes from the Greek antherikos (straw), which refers to the grass-like leaves.
The genus has about 50 species. Two species, St Bernard's-lily and Branched St Bernard's-lily, occur in Sweden.
